The Anchorage Daily News endorsed Barack Obama today. That’s right, Alaska’s biggest city has seen Sarah Palin up close and personal, and feels she is in no way ready for the job of Vice President. Money quote:
Palin’s rise captivates us but nation needs a steady hand

Ron Howard, Andy Griffith and Henry Winkler all come out for Obama in this humorous clip.
CC Goldwater, Barry’s granddaughter, announced her family’s support for Barack Obama today.
There always have been a glimmer of hope that someday, someone would “race through the gate” full steam in Goldwater style. Unfortunately, this hasn’t happened, and the Republican brand has been tarnished in a shameless effort to gain votes and appeal to the lowest emotion, fear. Nothing about McCain, except for maybe a uniform, compares to the same ideology of what Goldwater stood for as a politician. The McCain/Palin plan is to appear diverse and inclusive, using women and minorities to push an agenda that makes us all financially vulnerable, fearful, and less safe.
When you see the candidates in political ads, you can’t help but be reminded of the 1964 presidential campaign of Johnson/Goldwater, the ‘origin of spin’, that twists the truth and obscures what really matters. Nothing about the Republican ticket offers the hope America needs to regain it’s standing in the world, that’s why we’re going to support Barack Obama. I think that Obama has shown his ability and integrity.

Yes indeed, al-Qaeda knows a good thing when they see it. Bush’s war in Iraq has given them an army of new recruits, and they know that John McCain will keep our troops there and give them plenty more. And then there’s the financial cost of the war, which is enormous.
Al-Qaeda prefers an indefinite U.S. occupation of Iraq and a bellicose U.S. all across the Muslim world in order to radicalize Muslims to its terrorist cause and drain the U.S. of its financial wealth — what Osama bin Laden calls his “bleed to bankruptcy” strategy.

McCain’s negative campaign is producing results, but not the results he was hoping for. John McCain is losing support from mainstream Republicans. William Milliken, the former governor of Michigan and a life-long Republican, said “He is not the McCain I endorsed.” Lincoln Chafee, a former US Senator from Rhode Island, said “There are a whole lot of us deserting.” Johnny Maverick’s ship is sinking fast.

During a stop in Grand Rapids on Thursday, Lincoln Chafee, a former Republican U.S. senator from Rhode Island, said he’s voting for Obama and urging others to do likewise.
McCain campaigned for Chafee’s unsuccessful re-election bid in 2006, but Chafee said he is concerned McCain has swung to the right, a divisive strategy that could make it difficult for him to govern.
“That’s not my kind of Republicanism,” said Chafee, who now calls himself an independent. “I saw what Bush and Cheney did. They came in with a (budget) surplus and a stable world, and look what’s happened now. In eight short years they’ve taken one peaceful and prosperous world, and they’ve torn it into tatters.”
As for McCain’s choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for his running mate, “there’s no question she’s totally unqualified,” Chafee said.
