This classic sketch from Mr. Show illustrates the basic rules of campaign ad wars, particularly the slow slide into the gutter lol.
Tip of the hat to Open Left
Keith Olbermann weighs in on the paranoid, polarizing, and sometimes racist statements of the McCain campaign team and their supporters.
McCain’s negative campaign is producing results, but not the results he was hoping for. John McCain is losing support from mainstream Republicans. William Milliken, the former governor of Michigan and a life-long Republican, said “He is not the McCain I endorsed.” Lincoln Chafee, a former US Senator from Rhode Island, said “There are a whole lot of us deserting.” Johnny Maverick’s ship is sinking fast.

During a stop in Grand Rapids on Thursday, Lincoln Chafee, a former Republican U.S. senator from Rhode Island, said he’s voting for Obama and urging others to do likewise.
McCain campaigned for Chafee’s unsuccessful re-election bid in 2006, but Chafee said he is concerned McCain has swung to the right, a divisive strategy that could make it difficult for him to govern.
“That’s not my kind of Republicanism,” said Chafee, who now calls himself an independent. “I saw what Bush and Cheney did. They came in with a (budget) surplus and a stable world, and look what’s happened now. In eight short years they’ve taken one peaceful and prosperous world, and they’ve torn it into tatters.”
As for McCain’s choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for his running mate, “there’s no question she’s totally unqualified,” Chafee said.
Charles Gibson asked Obama to respond to the lies being told by McCain and Palin about William Ayers. Obama hits it out of the park.
McCain is making a last desperate attempt to win the election by ignoring the issues and appealing to fear. In the words of Joe Biden, “This is beyond disappointing, this is wrong.”
Politicians since George Washington have faced negative campaigns in the media. Finding the right response to the dirty tricks, half-truths and outright lies is never easy. Al Franken’s approach is one of the best ever, just point a finger at your opponent’s propaganda and laugh.
