Some people refrain from eating meat for reasons of health, others act out of concern for the environment and there are those who oppose the consumption of animal products for ethical reasons, as well as those who do so on the basis of motives of a religious nature ( Hindus or Buddhists, for example).

In general, diet or vegetarian diet is one that is free of meat, fish, their derivatives and products such as milk, eggs, etc.

There are many varieties of vegetarian diets, among them are:

Diet ovolactovegetariana
It is the widest. Among the foods of animal origin are included milk derivatives and eggs. Within this diet are those who lead a ovolactovegetariana feeding which includes milk and dairy products but not eggs (lacto) and the subgroup that includes eggs but not milk or milk derivatives (ovovegetarian).

If food intake is varied can meet the nutritional needs, but when the intake of milk and dairy products in their whole versions is abundant, there is a high intake of saturated fat.

Vegan

Excludes all food of animal origin. Possible deficiencies found in his followers are vitamin B12, vitamin D, calcium and zinc.

Macrobiotic Diets
Based on a balanced lifestyle in harmony with nature and the universe. The macrobiotic diet is based on the consumption of cereals, vegetables and legumes. Also consumed, although in smaller quantities, fresh fruits, nuts, seeds and bread.

Is prohibited consumption of meat and its derivatives, milk and eggs, as well as intake of vegetables from the nightshade family (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant), tropical fruit and artificial sweeteners.

This type of diet can meet the nutritional needs of adults, perhaps with the exception of vitamin B12, vitamin D and calcium. In children can cause serious nutritional deficiencies.

Other types of vegetarian diets are:

Frugivorous diet
Based on the consumption of fruits, nuts and seeds, also includes tomatoes, peppers and eggplants. With this kind of diet is not easy to meet the nutritional requirements of protein and calcium. Do not recommend this type of food, especially in infants.

Raw food diet

Allows only raw foods, to avoid loss of nutrients in cooking them. Based on the consumption of cereals, pulses, seeds, vegetables, fruits and nuts. This type of diet is not recommended because it does not cover nutritional needs, especially in children.
